What is a Diesel Engine Pump?
A diesel engine pump is a device that combines a diesel engine with a Water Pump. It merges the power output of the diesel engine with the water-pumping function, and it is widely used in many situations.
1. Components
Engine body: Includes cylinders, pistons, crankshaft, connecting rods, and other parts. The diesel engine compresses air to raise its temperature, then injects fuel, naturally producing power.
Fuel system: Composed of a fuel tank, fuel Pump, fuel filter, and injectors. Fuel is filtered from the tank, delivered to the injectors by the fuel Pump, and injected into the cylinders for combustion.
Lubrication system: Includes the oil Pump, oil filter, oil pan, etc. The oil Pump draws oil from the oil pan, filters it, and delivers it to various parts that need lubrication, reducing friction and wear.
Cooling system: Usually either air-cooled or water-cooled. The water-cooling system includes a Water Pump, radiator, cooling fan, etc., using circulating coolant to remove heat generated by the engine.
Starting system: Generally, there are manual and electric start methods. The electric start system includes a starter motor and battery, used to start the diesel engine.
2. Water Pump Section
Pump body: The outer shell of the water Pump, containing an impeller, Pump shaft, and sealing devices.
Impeller: The core part of the pump. By rotating at high speed, it generates centrifugal force, drawing water in through the inlet and pushing it out through the outlet.
Sealing devices: Include mechanical seals and packing seals, preventing water from leaking out of the pump body.
Inlet and outlet pipes: Connect the pump's inlet and outlet for water conveyance.
3. Working Principle
1. Power transmission
Once the diesel engine starts, the crankshaft rotates to produce power. This power is transmitted to the pump shaft via couplings or pulleys.
2. Water pumping process
As the pump's impeller rotates with the pump shaft, a low-pressure zone forms at the center, and water is sucked into the pump due to atmospheric pressure.
The high-speed rotation of the impeller imparts kinetic energy to the water, which is thrown outward by centrifugal force and exits through the outlet.
4. Application Areas
1. Agricultural irrigation
In farmland irrigation, diesel engine pumps can transport water from rivers, wells, etc., to the fields, meeting the irrigation needs of crops. Especially in remote areas without electricity, the self-powered nature of diesel pumps makes them ideal for irrigation.
2. Emergency use
Diesel engine pumps can serve as fire pumps. At a fire scene, when power is out, a diesel pump can quickly start and provide enough water pressure and flow for firefighting.
3. Municipal drainage
In urban drainage systems, diesel engine pumps can be used in pumping stations. During heavy rain, when municipal water needs to be discharged quickly, diesel pumps can assist electric pumps in evacuation.
