What is a hydrant pump?

Fire hydrant pumps are key equipment in fire protection systems, mainly used to extract and transport firefighting water to meet the needs of fire rescue. Fire hydrant pumps have structural forms such as vertical single-stage, vertical multi-stage, horizontal multi-stage, and horizontal single-stage. Depending on the application scenario, they can be divided into ordinary, high-pressure, and submersible types. Their working principle is that fire hydrant pumps are usually composed of electric motors, pump bodies, valves, pressure gauges, and other parts,. After receiving the start signal, the electric motor drives the impeller inside the pump to rotate, generating centrifugal force. Water is sucked in from the inlet and discharged through the outlet. The valve adjusts the direction and flow rate of the water flow, and the pressure gauge detects the water pressure.

The control methods of fire hydrant pumps include linkage control, manual control, etc. The linkage control can be triggered by signals such as the low-pressure switch on the outlet main pipe of the fire hydrant system and the flow switch on the outlet pipe of the high-level fire water tank. The fire hydrant pump can be directly started, and the system will automatically trigger it without manual operation. Manual control can directly control the start and stop of the fire hydrant pump through the manual control panel in the fire control room.
